I’m Jennifer Fitz, married to the SuperHusband, and homeschooling housewife to our boy and three girls: Mr. Boy (spring ‘00), Aria (”R.E. uh”) (winter ‘02), the Bun (spring ‘04) and the Squeaky Budget (summer ‘06), now going by the name Andabelle.

I started Notes from Greencastle in the fall of ‘06, mostly because I enjoy writing and wanted some practice writing for an audience.   One of my goals at that time was to provide a view of catholic homeschooling for those who are wondering about it — for non-homeschoolers trying to figure out what it is that homeschoolers do and why we do it, for could-be homeschoolers trying to decide whether it is the right choice, and for fellow-homeschoolers looking for some encouragement and a bit of a reality check.

You should know that I although I am an ardent catholic, you don’t need to be one yourself in order to read here.  Honest questions about catholicism are always welcome, so don’t be afraid to ask if I say something that doesn’t make sense to you.  I don’t have time for apologetics debates though, sorry.   Do be assured that regardless of your beliefs (or lack thereof), no one should be giving you a hard time in the combox.  If you feel that someone is picking on you, please let me know.

The other thing you should know is that although I am passionate about homeschooling, I am not dogmatic.  If you are looking for someone who is convinced homeschooling is the only valid educational option for responsible parents, you are going to have to find some other blog.

Here at the new location my goal is to really keep the blog focused on catholic homeschooling.  I have another blog on wordpress, Riparians at the Gate, where I blog about economics and social issues, history, and general (non-homeschooling-specific) education topics. There’s a little bit of crossover between the two blogs, but they are different enough that you might very well like one and not be so interested in the other.

Pardon the dust as I continue getting this new location put together, and hopefully I’ll be seeing you around.

Take care,

Jennifer.

PS: If you use Mozilla Firefox and find the type is too small, use “ctrl +” to increase the text size.   [that is: hit the 'ctrl' button and the '+' button at the same time.  You can do this more than once, to keep getting bigger and bigger.  'ctrl -' makes it smaller].  Works pretty well.  Sadly, the version of Internet Explorer that I have is not so friendly.
